Travelling Outback Australia by Road

Traveling Australia by car is the ultimate way to experience its diverse landscapes. A full circumnavigation (the "Big Lap") covers ≈15,000 km and takes at least 2 months.
If you are into photography, the Australias outback is predominated by high pressure systems year round. This makes for great photographic conditions. Sunset and sunrise photography and night sky imagery is abundant out there.
To safely travel the great outdoors in a vehicle, ensure your vehicle has been thoroughly serviced, carry recovery gear and extra fuel/water, and have offline communication like a satellite phone (or at least Starlink). When travelling to remote areas, always share your travel itinerary with someone before you depart.
A comprehensive first aid kit customized to include snake bite bandages is recommended.
Many animals (kangaroos, cattle, brumbies, camel, etc.) are highly active between dusk and dawn. Avoid driving at dawn and at dust times in particular to prevent devastating collisions.
